Let Europes cows out!

23 million dairy cows are kept inside for the new trend "indoor" farming. More and more cows are  moved in. The cows don't get fresh water, and the food is not very good.

Health Problems:
- Painful illnesses like mastitis and lameness.
- Infertility.
 - Short life times.

It is uncomfortable for the cows and they are easily injured because their housing is cramped and/or poorly designed. They can't roam freely and express themselves.

This is how it can look at indoor farms...
... But it should look like this!

You can help the cows by pressing this link www.happycows.eu.  and signing the support petition. And click Here to read the full EU directive content WSPA are proposing.

I met a woman collecting names for the petition in town and gave me the assignment to write a post about the cows, now I have.

Chick, Chick, Chickens!

At the countryside our grandparents have hens. This year they have chickens.  About a month ago they were tiny fluffy things, now they are almost grown-up. Sophia is the one holding the fluffy white one, and you can probably see it is very fluffy compared to the others. These chickens are allowed to roam around the garden as they want with their mother and siblings along with the other hens. There are 6 chickens - four black chicks and two white chicks, there was a golden one as well, but the hawk took it.

When you buy eggs always buy the eggs from organic free-range hens. They get to be outside and inside as they like. Its much better for the hens and the egg yolk is more yellow.

Only a week old!

Sea destruction

Humans are dependent of oil, for fuel, warmth and electricity. There is a restricted amount of oil and we use loads. We have used most of the oil on the surface an now we are digging deep into the sea. Oil is marine snow which is dead plankton and marine life that is millions of years old, if it does not turn into oil it turns into limestone. People build oil rigs to pump up the oil out of the seafloor. There were about 570 oil rigs in the North sea in april 2012.

Shark fin soup is a popular delicacy. But the fishing method is crude. The fishers catch the sharks, cut off the fins and throw the finless shark back into the water. Sure it would be ok if they used the whole shark and didn't waste the rest. Sharks cant swim without their fins and it would be better to eat the whole shark and fish up less of them. You should do that or not fish them at all.

Humans fish so much that our seas are soon going to be big underwater deserts. Most of the time we fish with huge nets, the biggest about 40 kilometers long. They catch all the fish and mammals in its way, dolphins, sharks, turtles and birds. The dolphins, turtles and birds suffocate in the nets. All fish that they are not fishing gets thrown overboard, dead or alive. Even the ones we would normally eat.

The sea is a dump. Humans throw a lot of there rubbish in the sea. We throw about 6400000000kg
( about 14 billion pounds)  of rubbish into the ocean every year. It is life threatening for all animals that mistake it for food! A turtle can mistake a plasticbag for a jellyfish, so it will eat it and suffocate.

The very first post!

We started this blog to help the planet we live on. We have seen films and photos of the world and the pollution. We have decided to help as much as we can! Sophia loves all the marine life, especially the dolphins and sea mammals. Isabelle has no favorite animal and loves all of them.
